unknownrival: (Inwardly facepalming. Really...)

[RL - forward-dated to the 11th. Kid visiting.]

Issei let out a sigh as they left the dining room. "I apologize for my father and brother's behavior," he said, blushing slightly. "They have very... open personalities. It's an admirable quality, when they aren't talking about things I would rather have them hide..."

Really, were all of those embarrassing personal stories about him necessary? Issei loved them dearly, and all, but honestly. He had to talk to this person again.

"They only said such things because they wanted you to relax and feel comfortable with us," he admitted, "so I suppose I can forgive them for that. Now that dinner is over, how would you like to spend your visit?"

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Kid grinned humorously as he followed his blue-haired friend out of the dining room. "No need to apologize!" he said cheerfully, "I think they were quite friendly!"

Not to mention he was grateful they didn't ask him to remove his hat and monocle at the dinner table, too.

"Your family is kind to be willing enough to host an criminal for dinner."

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It isn't the first time that that has happened, nor will it be the last," Issei pointed out. "But as long as you were satisfied with the reception, I'm happy. I'm sure our foods are plainer than you're used to..."

No, that was too self-deprecating. Kid most likely wanted him to be his usually-cheerful self, not sour the mood. Really, what was he doing?

"The question still stands, Kid. Anything that you would like to see or do in the temple, I would be happy to provide. Or we could just, err, chill?" Did Issei sound as awkward as he felt? Probably.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Plainer than he was used to...? If anything, it had been much better than he was used to. His mother was a good cook, but since she worked such late shifts at the hospital, she didn't do it often.

"You're too modest," he pointed out with a shrug, but he changed the subject fairly quickly to answer Issei's question.

"You haven't exactly given me the grand tour of this place."

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can do that!" Issei perked up almost instantly. "So here, beside the dining room, is the kitchen, naturally enough. A temple doesn't have many rooms for entertaining guests, so I often do it there... besides, it's easier to serve tea. And in this hallway here are the monks' personal quarters."

He actually usually hosted people in his bedroom, but Kid would see that as a romantic adcance, and he just wanted Kid to feel comfortable so they could have a friendly, not romantic at all visit.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Kid followed Issei past the dining room into the kitchen, which seemed like a suitable enough room to entertain guests in. It was a temple, after all. They surely didn't have much more than the bare necessities.

Kid peered into the hallway and tilted his hat back so he could see better.

"Your room is down there?" To be fair, Kid had invited many of his guy friends to hang out in his room with him before. It just seemed natural at this point for him to be invited in (and completely non-romantic).

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Second room on the left... W-we could stop by after we finish the tour, if you would like. It's a bit sparse, but comfortable." And Kid already knew about the plushie in it, so that wasn't too embarrassing. Still! He would need to be on his very best behavior in order to protect his precious friendship with Kid. One wrong word could drive a wedge between them, and he could never stand that.

"If we go down the hallway a bit, you can see the gardens out the back windows. I'm mostly the one who maintains them."

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Another shrug, and Kid followed Issei down the hallway to the said garden.

"Oh, so you're the temple gardener," he teased.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have more important duties than that!" Issei huffed. "It's only just that as the youngest monk, such things are relegated to me. I still have a higher standing."

The garden looked well-kept and neatly trimmed. Blooming flowers of various kinds were arranged aesthetically throughout it. Issei mumbled, "...would you like one?"

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Kid lifted a gloved hand and waved it nonchalantly. "No worries," he said with a grin, "I was merely teasing you, anyway!"

And then, he stopped and blinked. Awkwaaaard. "Ah... no, that's quite alright, I have several of my own!"

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, I understand! I just thought, since I often give them as presents and you tend to give them more than receive them - i-it made sense at the time." He grumbled, in a lower voice but still loud enough to hear, "What's wrong with you, you're making Kid uncomfortable, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to have a friendly meeting with your friend, so why are you so terrible at it?!"

Clearing his throat, he went on. "The front side of the temple is also lovely. I assume you saw the lake as you came in."

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Kid decided not to comment on Issei's mumblings, only because he didn't want to exacerbate the situation. He wasn't uncomfortable, per se, anyway. He was more worried about making Issei uncomfortable with his flat out denials.

"I did," he said with a nod, "A nice touch to the... ah, ancient architecture, I suppose."

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Issei chuckled. "It is ancient, isn't it? Built when this area was first settled. It's no surprise that the temple is on this spot, as it's the spiritual heart of the city." Something about leylines that Issei didn't understand and Kid would probably be bored by.

He added, "With the lake, and the woods around the temple, monks have no excuse to not appreciate the beauty of nature. I'm lucky to live in such a place. Ah, but perhaps at the moment you would rather appreciate the beauty of indoor heating? The woods will have to wait."

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Ancient, but historical," Kid added with a grin, "It seems like a nice, quiet place to live, at any rate."

Though he had to admit he preferred the bustle of the city.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
"That sort of life suits me. Mm, please come back inside. I haven't yet shown you the main hall, although since there may be a service going on, you'll have to go against your natural instincts and not draw attention to yourself," Issei teased gently.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Kid snorted in amusement, grateful for the relaxed teasing. "You act as though I can't be subtle when necessary!"

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I know you can. But it isn't your style." Issei chuckled as well, settling a little into the familiar pattern. "And judging by the way Nakamori-keibu acts, at any heist, no matter how valuable the jewel, you are by far more important. That isn't quite the case for a temple."

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Magicians seek the spotlight when they're performing," the thief went one, and he edged toward the main hall where Issei had indicated the services were being held, "I don't think I'll interrupt anything."

/knows very little about Buddhist ceremony

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"I have faith in you." As quietly as he could, Issei opened the door enough to reveal several monks deep in meditation. It was obvious by his enraptured expression that their chanting struck him deeply, and it wouldn't have been difficult to picture him leading that service.

/knows less than you probably

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
True to his word, Kid didn't interrupt the ceremony at all, instead opting to watch from a far. It was interesting, he had to admit, but certainly not something he would enjoy spending his life doing. Still, Issei liked it, and that was all that mattered.

/has Googled a ton of things, but half of them were 'how gay is Japanese Buddhism?'

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
When he deemed that Kid had seen enough, Issei shut the door. "Thank you," he said simply. "Most visitors would start yawning by that point."

... fffffffffft

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
"It's alright for you to skip it?" Kid asked curiously, one eyebrow quirked.

It was really gay, at times. Just so you know.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"If all of the monks attended every service, we couldn't fit them all in the room," Issei explained. "Besides which, I have... allowances, right now. You can't close your eyes in meditation if every time you close your eyes you see your killer grinning at you."

No wonder Issei is so gay

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Kid's grin faded. Issei had a fair enough point, and it definitely seemed like he was far more traumatized by the assassins event then the thief was. Then again, Issei didn't have much experience with murder and death as Kid did, so it was only natural.

A quick subject changed was in order. "Is there anything else here I should see?"

Exactly~

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"The library, of course!" Issei shook his head and composed himself. Now was not the time for moping, not while he had important guests. "We have quite the collection; mostly of religious books and tracts, of course, but also some secular works. Even I haven't read the entirety of its contents."

Issei felt great pride in their temple's library. It could hardly be faulted for size, and he was sure that even Kid could find something in there to appreciate.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The library sounded like a perfect way to kill some time, particularly since Kid hadn't done much research into the types of jewels this world had. And since Issie didn't seem to care about his less-than-legal habits, then surely he wouldn't mind if the thief browsed through a few books to feed them, right?

And the monk was right; the library was huge. He could spend hours here.

"You don't mind if I look around, do you?" Though he was already heading toward the nearest bookcase.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not at all, go right ahead! If you like, you can take some home with you if you promise to return them," Issei assured him as he took a seat. "Ah, the newer books are over near the front, in case you're interested."

Most of the religious books wouldn't have been much use to him, nor would the novels Issei kept around for pleasure. There were, however, a few books in the front that Issei had somehow acquired (more like stole from his archrival): books that talked about things like the Mage's Association, Clock Tower, and the magical properties of gems. With a little searching, Kid would soon find out that not only were the famous gems more likely to be magical, but even ordinary ones could be.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Kid spends quite some time going through the secular books that do talk about magic and jewels, and it isn't long before he staring at his open book with a deep frown set upon his features.

... why hasn't he thought about heisting here before?

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Issei blinked, and started approaching Kid. "You've been looking at that book for quite a while. Would you like to bring it home with you?" he asked, careful to keep his voice low in order to not disturb the other occupants of the library.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Quickly, the thief snapped the book shut and nodded at Issei. "If you don't mind, I'd like to take it with me," he said, keeping his voice low as well.

It looked like he was going to heist on this world soon, after all.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Go right ahead! Take as many as you want. A temple should be generous with its loans," Issei answered brightly.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-13 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Kid nodded in thanks to his friend and stood up, tucking the book underneath his arm as he did so. "I thank you for your cooperation, particularly since you didn't have to help if you didn't want to."

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't be silly," Issei chided, smiling gently. "You're my friend, of course I'll assist you in any way I can. What else are good friends for?"

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-13 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Fair enough," Kid responded with an appreciative grin.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, speaking of things that friends should do for each other, one of which is relay messages..." Issei chuckled. "A robot told me to ask you to stay out of his business. He seems to think I have some hold over what you do."

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-13 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Blink blink. A robo--

Oh.

Kid's expression turned amused. "Bass-kun, am I correct?"

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be him, I believe," Issei answered with a shrug. He didn't really care one way or the other.

[personal profile] pandorabox 2010-02-13 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll let him know you passed on the message," he responded with a chuckle. Typical Bass being... typical Bass, again.

[identity profile] stripping.livejournal.com 2010-02-13 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you. I told him that you don't automatically listen to your fans, but..." He shrugged again. "Some people will never change their minds."
