Is it generally considered strange for the head of a Buddhist temple to be best friends with the head of the local yakuza?

I thought I'd ask, given Father's Day and all.

if not strange, it's certainly a special sort of friendship.

Special describes them fairly well, particularly my father.

I don't know any yakuza, so no I haven't seen it actually happen.

But the priest and the mafia?

Happens all the time here in New York.

I've heard New York is strange.

I've seen several cities that are stranger than New York.

I don't know if I want to hear about them.
