It was a wonderful gift to just have a temple and be able to drag anyone he wanted to it with no questions asked by the monks - all of them knew about the strangeness of the community by now, so one man in armor barely raised eyebrows amongst them.

Issei racketed through a closet full of clothes, occasionally pulling out sets he thought were in Lancer's size. "Let's see... The selection is more limited than I'd remembered, but you should have a decent choice of what to wear from these. My apologies, I thought there were more."

Issei sighed in relief. "That's good. I want to be a good host, of course."

"You don't have to worry about that. You seem much too kind to be anything else."

Issei turned a little red at that. "Y-you're making assumptions."

"Am I? You've invited someone you know to be a Servant and thus potentially dangerous into your home, where one could potentially cause untold amounts of damage."

Be glad he's not Caster.

"Never mind the fact that you have been unfailingly kind to someone you just met, even though it's completely unnecessary."

"You don't seem to be stupid. Attacking me would not end very well for you, despite how much damage you could cause." A shrug. He knew the protection he was under. "Besides which, I have a good sense about people. You wouldn't attack someone without cause."

"A good sense, hm? Well, I can say you've guessed that much correctly." He smirked faintly at that, looking amused. "Dare I ask what other thoughts your evaluation of me has resulted in?"

"That you honestly could use a social life despite your protests."

"I fail to see the point to it. The Holy Grail War will likely not last more than a week or two at best. After my victory, I'll cease to exist in this realm. So why should I bother with a social life, least of all when it'll distract me from following my Master's orders?"

"I'm very aware of the Second Magic at work here. But regardless of that, I'm here only to serve my Master and I will do so without distracting myself. I shouldn't even be here right now, but you talked me into it."

"And is it really that much of a bad thing?"

"If something should happen at this very moment and my Master should be injured or killed as a result, whose fault do you think that would be?"

Lancer crossed his arms, looking concerned rather than the irritation his words might've suggested.

"A knight's duty is to protect and fight for their lord, it's as simple as that. I failed my own once and I will not do so again."

Issei understood that failing others was a serious matter. "But I can't condone being a knight over being a person, and people need and desire companionship."

"I can not argue your last point, Issei. But the point of a heroic spirit is that they are more than merely a person. Servants, especially knights, are meant to be those who can cast away a normal human life for the sake of another; be it their lord, their country, or their people.

No heroic spirit got that way by being focused entirely on themselves, to my knowledge. I know that I didn't."
