[RL with Lancer - you will have a social life, damn you.]

It was a wonderful gift to just have a temple and be able to drag anyone he wanted to it with no questions asked by the monks - all of them knew about the strangeness of the community by now, so one man in armor barely raised eyebrows amongst them.

Issei racketed through a closet full of clothes, occasionally pulling out sets he thought were in Lancer's size. "Let's see... The selection is more limited than I'd remembered, but you should have a decent choice of what to wear from these. My apologies, I thought there were more."

"It's fine, I really don't need anything particularly special."

Lancer didn't quite seem nervous--the Fianna weren't the kind to feel or to show fear. But he was far out of his element at the moment, having come directly from a night of combat in the first major conflict of the Holy Grail War. As he glanced around, it seemed as if Lancer must have assumed the shadow of death was trailing behind him...or the shadow of a very dissatisfied magus in blue.

And there was more than that. For while he remained in the hotel, the only woman he needed to concern himself with was Sola. As far as he knew at that moment, her magic resistance was such that he wouldn't have to worry.

But here, out in the open and visible in a crowded city? This was literally holding up a brightly colored 'HI I AM CURSED SO LOOK AT ME' sign. And that just added on to Lancer's short but incredibly heavy list of concerns.

To Issei, however, he most likely just looked like an unnerved person with a sudden odd complex of worriedly touching the right wide of his face.

"I hope that this will be able to do, actually. Honestly, if you stayed in the temple we could just order pizza and you wouldn't need casual dress, but it might be better for you to get out some... Well, it's the same to me right now, I'm just happy you're socializing - I don't have to insist on one or the other."

Issei studied the clothing options he'd pulled from a temple closet carefully. "If you do want to go out, I think the green does suit you, and should fit fairly well. But I could be wrong."

"I...really think it would be better if we were to stay here."

Lancer didn't say more than that, speaking in a calm but slightly hesitant voice. Right, Second Magic, he'd get back and everything would be absolutely fine. He didn't have to worry so much.

"Staying here it is." A small smile. "Then I'll just place the order and it won't take long at all. Uh, do you know what kinds of toppings you'd like? I should ask if you're a vegetarian first of all."

"...I'm not sure I even know what that means. And I don't actually need to eat anything, strictly speaking."

"Too bad, you're having pizza. I'll just order something relatively plain and we'll see if you enjoy it."

While pulling out his cell phone, Issei paused. "Have you even been fed at all since you've been summoned?"

"..."

He took a second to think about that.

"I don't believe I've eaten anything, no. But as I said, I don't need to. Servants don't really get hungry, and we don't necessarily need sleep either."

"...Right, I'd better make it a large pizza. I'm tempted to send you home with leftovers and a box of cookies."

Issei? Worry?

Naaaah.

"...that is completely unnecessary, you know. Was I not clear in explaining?"

"You don't need it, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't like a good meal. Let me order before I get back to debating."

Swiftly, he flipped open the phone and called the pizza place, ordering a large cheese pizza with all efficiency. After finalizing the order, he put his phone away and returned his attention to his guest. "So. Food."

Lancer had calmed down notably by the time Issei's attention was focused on him again. He still stood with a sort of rigid formality, but he'd finally lowered his hand from the mark on his face. When he spoke again, his voice was calm and steady.

"I'm not quite sure why you're making this into such a serious matter."

"It's not a serious matter. We are relaxing and having fun," Issei pronounced in the same serious tone he had been using all evening. He then cracked more of a smile. "But honestly, I just want to do everything I can when it's in my power."

"I thank you for the sentiment, but I must assure you it's entirely unnecessary."

"Maybe." Issei left it at that. "So what would you like to talk about, if the poor working conditions of a Servant are off the table?"

"Excuse me, it's hardly 'poor working conditions'."

Just because he thought it was true didn't make it so.

"It's still hardly discussion material for a first date, and before you say anything that was an ill-advised joke."

Sigh.

"What did you do in your free time when you had free time?"

"..."

If any facial expression could say his hobby was 'running for my life', that one did.

"The slightest moment of free time, Lancer."

"...Either spent with my fellow knights, running for my life, or spending it with my family. In that order."

"I can work with that. What did you tend to do with your fellow knights and family?"

Issei was going to make friends if it killed him.

"Fighting, drinking, the usual to be expected among knights. As far as my family goes, our life was remarkably peaceful--at least for a while."

"I'm not very much good at drinking." An understatement. Issei allowed himself a small laugh. "I'm better at fighting, but not by much, certainly not compared to a knight."

"I certainly wouldn't ask you to keep pace with a Servant on either count." Lancer laughed quietly as well--rigid posture or not, he seemed somewhat less tense now.

"And I shall hope I never have occasion to."

Well, that was a start! Issei too was a little more at ease.

"Glad to hear it."

A slight, awkward smile crossed his face at that.
