[Open RL - Issei's birthday party.]

The temple had a large room with tables and chairs, usually used for meetings between the monks. Right now it had been appropriated for Issei's birthday party, and was full of food and streamers. Guests were milling about, talking to each other and waiting for Issei to arrive.

Which he did, dropping his jaw at the sight. "Wh-what is all this?"

Matthias glanced up at him, still reaching, "I need that!"
He pointed up.

"If you want, I can get one down for you. I'm much taller, anyway. Would you like that?" Issei asked.

He didn't always follow complicated sentences, but he could get the jist of it. And what he got from that was that Issei was going to give him one.

"Yeah!" he answered brightly.

"All right, then!" With a determined expression, Issei stood up and pulled down a streamer. "Here you are."

He took the streamer without a thank you and started waving it around wildly, then ran off to drag it around behind him.

Maraich had quietly watched to the side but took the opportunity to break into the conversation, "Kids are easily entertained sometimes. Happy birthday, Issei."

"Thank you, Maraich. I appreciate it." Issei watched Matthias run off fondly. "I like kids. They're so... innocent and cute."

"Aren't they? I hope it stays that way," he kept an eye on both. Matthias was far more childlike - running around and not watching where he was going. But Figaro was more likely to cause trouble on purpose.

"As do I. I'll help you protect their purity whenever I can," Issei replied, with a determined gleam in his eyes.

"That's nice to hear. There's so much to protect them from these days; not to mention unsavory people on the community," as Matthias stopped by one of the presents and started trying to open it Maraich picked him up, "No honey, those are Issei's presents."

"That's right. You'll get your own presents on your birthday," Issei chided gently. "Besides, they're probably more interesting to me than to you."

Being the perfect two year old, he argued his case, "No, it's mine!"
He struggled in Maraich's hold but wasn't able to break free.

Issei laughed. "I don't think so. Try again."

[maraich]

With limbs flailing he continued, "It's mine!"
Until Maraich warned him, "Do you want to go home?"
The answer was a resounding, "Nooooo."
"Then you better behave."

He set Matthias down, and although he didn't touch the present he was clearly upset about being scolded.

"Sorry," Maraich shrugged, "He's at the stage where everything is his."

"It's alright. Kids are like that, I should be understanding." Issei smiled. "Are you enjoying the party?"

"It's a nice party. Were you surprised?"

And after a minute the earlier scolding seemed to be forgotten, and Matthias started placing the streamer on Figaro.

"Yes, I was. I didn't expect anything like this - I would have been satisfied without a party."

"But parties are fun. You get to have all your friends and get presents."

"I would have been satisfied with just a quiet birthday that no one knew about," Issei replied. "But I suppose that's true, as well."

"You should be glad you have all these people here to celebrate with you," he smirked, twirling a piece of hair with his finger, "Although I'm not sure people knew what to buy you."

"I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to be such an enigma."

"You'll just have to act pleasantly surprised for all the presents," he paused indecisively as Figaro was now walking around with streamers attached to his back.

"Can do. Unless anyone gets me something embarrassing..." Issei answered, blushing slightly.

"Like what? Lingerie?"

Issei's jaw dropped. "Would anyone really purchase that for me?"

He chuckled, "Maybe as a joke."
