The temple had a large room with tables and chairs, usually used for meetings between the monks. Right now it had been appropriated for Issei's birthday party, and was full of food and streamers. Guests were milling about, talking to each other and waiting for Issei to arrive.

Which he did, dropping his jaw at the sight. "Wh-what is all this?"

[That makes Issei turn as red as a beet.] Wh-what?! S-such, such a thing isn't necessary or at all logical, you don't need to!

[His grin widens] But it's my pleasure~ [He's only teasing, but he'll milk it for all it's worth] How old are you now?

N-nineteen... That seems like it would hurt. And be very difficult to do. And be embarrassing in front of all of these people and really, can we just not?

[Tyki lets out a laugh and gives Issei a single smack on the ass] I guess that'll suffice, since it's your birthday and all.

[That, of course, makes Issei jump, and he splutters for a few moments before he's able to get out a coherent sentence.] Th-th-thank you? Is that even the appropriate thing to say in this situation? You really didn't have to, I would have preferred not!

[Tyki grins, loving the sight of the blushing, stuttering teen] You're welcome~ You'll find it's my personal mission in life to make people loosen up. [He winks] And I'm enjoying your lessons immensely.

[Grumble, grumble.] I'm a hopeless case. Many before you have tried and failed to get me to 'loosen up' - do you still want to take the challenge, knowing that?

[He chuckles] Quite frankly, knowing that it's hard or even impossible, only means I get to try longer.

I see. Then, I look forward to thwarting your next attempts. [Issei's blush fades a bit.] Aside from tormenting me, what have you been up to?

But you've have so much more fun if you surrendered.

[He leans back a little, taking a drag on his cigarette] Not a lot. My brother's house got blown up... That's going to be a pain to deal with.

And how would that end, hm?

[Issei looks saddened.] I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully this entire mess will be over soon.

Hmm, I doubt you'd be complaining about the climax.

[He shrugs] I'm not sorry. And I should get a chance at the one who did it.

[A worried expression on his face, and now he blushes again.] N-no pun intended, right? R-right?

Shall I wish you luck?

[He just grins sinfully]

Please~ I am looking forward to it, actually.

[Blush, blush.] St-stop that...

Then, good luck. I'll be cheering for you.

[He gives a slight bow] Thank you, Issei. And what have you been doing to celebrate this special day?

Before I was sent into this room? I was reading an old poetry collection.

[...yes, that's all.]

[He snickers slightly] Good thing we showed up to liven up your day then.

It wasn't bad poetry by any means, and I like that sort of peacefulness. You really didn't need to.

[The smile falters a little] Well, I'm sure Saguru organized the party because he wanted you to be happy, and see how much we all appreciate you, Issei. Would you have preferred we didn't?

No, no! I'm glad that we get along so well. I'm just... not used to having such a fuss made over me, that's all.

[He smiles] Enjoy it. We wouldn't be here if we didn't want to be.

I am enjoying it. Really, I am... [He wipes his eyes, although he isn't crying yet.] ...truly grateful.

[He's a little startled by that, too, and watches Issei curiously for signs of tears] Are you all right?

I'm fine. I just get emotional at times like these... a few years ago, I'd have been lucky to have one friend show up at a party like this.
