The elections for Student Council, and more specifically Student Council President, are almost upon us. I - it would be lying to say that I didn't feel a bit nervous. But that's healthy.

I trust I can count on a few of your votes? Remember that students must vote to fully use their power in the school system, etc., etc., you've all heard the morning announcements about why you should participate in the election.

That tends to happen in student elections. Whatever your vote, I have no intention of holding it against you.

Well, I have given numerous speeches on the subject, and I'm certain you must have heard one of them. Closer connection to the student body's issues, of course be in attendance at all council, parent organization, and civic organization meetings, don't repeat certain decorating incidents that have been a stain on our council's history, etc.

... those decorating incidents were funny, though.

Several students lodged complaints.

The ones without senses of humor.

They are still students, and the student council has an obligation to listen to them.

What about the students who liked the decorations?

They were not as vocal. Perhaps in the future, they will be more involved in reaching out to the student council?

I said I wanted to become more responsive to the needs of the students, and I meant it; this involves encouraging the students to show their needs accurately.
